Default 99 Series II, brake light switch, struck in park

1999 Discovery Series II. Problem seemed to start with blown fuse (#11) LH side & tail light, number plate light. Replaced fuse. Based upon on previous posts, probably unrelated.

The next day was stuck "in park" in driveway...it started later and worked fine....then got stranded - stuck "in park" again. Depressed safety pin under shifter cover....made it home.

Replaced with OEM brake light switch. Still no brake lights and safety pin will not release. Drives fine with no brake lights although still need to manually release switch. I should also mention the back-up lights have not worked for some time (not been an issue aside from not working while in reverse).

Is there a solenoid that could be bad....causing problem with the lights and safety release?

Check for water and or corrosion in the left rear tail lamp assembly.
It was a common problem for late model DII's to develop leaks in that tail lamp, corrode the wiring and cause all kinds of havoc.
Some have had to to splice in a new wire harness.

Not a daily driver so just got back focused on it. Still having issues.

All other lights work except the brake lights.

Any other ideas?

Fuse 21, inside truck fuse box. Power from that, thru a relay on back of fuse panel (driven by IDM and BCU) to the solenoid. RAVE electrical schematic attached.

Default Brake Switch Issue Resolved

After changing the brake switch, make sure to re-install in its harness before testing. Painfully - I did not, and mistakenly thought the issue was not the switch. Apparently, there must be a sequence the ECU runs before the switch will work (i.e., plunger in when key turned and then plunger out to release solenoid and illuminate the brakes).
