Hill Descent Control
you really can't go faster than 30 miles/hour in low range. I apologize if my original post was unclear.... I thought it was obvious that the green indicator light was the HDC light (upper left hand corner of the dashboard). Yes, i have seen those listed requirements... and I am meeting them and if you read more clearly that statement about gravitational effect there is no mention of an instrument that know's this. If the system would be work, and I took a tractor and pulled my car at 10 mph and I was in low range, and I was not touching the brake or accelerator my car would use abs to try and slow itself down.
Here is as clearly as I can put it.
I am trying to find out:
-Why, though I am fulfilling all the requirements , does it flash with a pinging. It should be a solid green light and it should work. For everyone who thinks I'm screwing up the test... I have tried all of this on my property where there are serious hills and I cannot get it to work.
It's this fade-out which I am having a problem with. No my brakes are not too hot... I'm in low range... if I choose to use HDC I idle in 1st gear low range before the hill, engage, and then it never starts working it just keeps flashing and pinging.
Maybe now we're clear on what I'm asking.
Why am I getting the information light with a tone

HDC fade-out
HDC fade-out gradually decreases the HDC brake intervention with the effect that the rate of hill descent will increase. If this occurs the HDC information light will flash and the warning chime will sound for the period that HDC takes to fade. HDC will be disabled completely once the descent is complete.
If required (e.g. the angle of the descent levels out significantly), fade-out may be achieved deliberately by deselecting HDC while the system is operating.
If a fault with the HDC system is detected, or if the braking system reaches a pre-set temperature due to extreme conditions, HDC will automatically fade out.
Warning lights HDC information light - GREEN
The light illuminates briefly as a
bulb and system check when the starter switch is turned to position ‘II’ and also
when HDC is selected.
If HDC is selected when the operating gears (LOW range) are engaged, the light will illuminate continuously.
If HDC has been selected but the system's operating criteria are not met (i.e. gearbox still in high range or vehicle speed too high), the information light will flash and the warning chime will sound continuously.
If the light flashes while HDC is active, normal functionality may cease and HDC ‘fade out’ may be induced.

HDC does not fail. Did you try taking it down a hill? Remeber before you press the HDC button you have to be rolling, with no pressure on any the pedals.
A flashing green HDC light, indicates HDC successfully unengaged, or its use was not necessary.
