Default Hooray...New owner of 99 DII

Finally, I found a Disco and I've never been happier with a auto purchase. I know that sound crazy because of the history of Land Rovers but I'm happy. It’s a single owner truck with 113K and excellent maintenance records (matching Carfax and owner's Passport to Service book signed off up to 90k in Aug 09). It’s not perfect (sagging headliner, lose fuse panel and gear shift cover, and a couple of small dents) but its mine. When I started to look for a Disco, I didn't want anything other than a white 03-04 model but after connecting with everyone here i saw the light, I did a lot of searching, I drove a total of 1500 miles just to look at Discos, and at the peak of my frustration I found the one.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the inputs and advice,

PS...first mod is going to be a painted headliner.

So, what know??
How about reading and doing my major service list posted at the top of this section. Doingf this will make the truck current, and if you do it, you will have a lot better idea of what makes it tick.
First thing you should do today is crawl under the truck and count the number of grease fitting on the front drive shaft, if 3, you are OK, if only 1, then that shaft has to be rebuilt ASAP to prevent damaging the tranny. What color are your plug wires?
What are your plans for the truck?

The front drive shaft only has one grease fitting and the plug wires are grayish in color (they say “Resist suppression...” and are numbered). My intentions are to use the truck primarily during the winter months in Canada and off-roading. While I'm in Canada I want to get out an explore the country, do some camping, get to mountain bike trails and the like. It will not be my sole mode of transportation but again, primary during the winter.

I'm very comfortable working on autos but from what I've read I don't have all the tools required to do the drive shaft rebuild. I prefer to do the work myself but I have to weigh the cost benefit factor. Do you have a recommendation? Also, any inputs on the plug wires?

To have the front driveshaft rebuilt by a shop ~200USD.
DIY ~100USD
Magnecor plug wires, 8mm.
www.apexperformance.net, not sure if they ship to Canada or not.

Check it out someone with the same questions i have, just got my new to me disco II already hit walmart for the $ 20 sub fix, doing the oil change, coolant and hopefully trans fluid tonight as suggested but was unaware of the driveshaft thing. That headliners got to go to but thats partly why i got a good price so i cant say anything so bad about it. got 136k on the vehicle and seeing the rocker covers in my near future due to some kind of nasty creeping down the block!

1. good question what is the bulb thing on the bottom of the intake manifold hose behind what i think is the MAF sensor since mines just kind of hanging which i know is v bad since its kind of subverting the point of the air filter.
Can i just tape over this for now?? or will i do lasting damage to the vehicle??

Welcome to a future of frustration, pain, agony and all the other things that come with maintaining a Discovery. Have fun.
