Default New DII owner serpentine belt walking

Hey guys New Discovery II owner here. I have a 1999 Discovery II with 238,683 miles and Noticed my Serpentine belt had a cut on it like it was off track right on top of the psp pulley. So I replaced the belt, popped the key a few times and noticed the belt was walking towards the engine but would stop once it was riding on the edge of the pulley see pictures.

What is the cause of this???? bad pump???

If you notice the white line on the belt that is were the belt is riding up on the back of the pulley...oh sorry for the crappy resolution..lol

Check if the pulley has been put on backwards.

You have a pulley out of alignment somewhere.
The most common ones are the water pump and power steering pump.
When the bearings go bad in either one of those the shaft can slide out (or in).
I would remove the belt and start spinning pulleys and checking for play.
A bad belt tensioner could also be the culprit.

Is it common for a belt to keep coming off in the same place, because thats whats happening here. Thats why I thought it may be the PSP. But im no mechanic..***** bag maybe, but no mechanic..lol

From the photo it looks like the jockey pulley (the one without grooves between the A/C and the PS) could be the culprit. Bad bearing?

I am going to say it again.
The P/S pulley is on backwards.
You can see in the picture is is setting forward of the 2 above it.

the ps is on backwards. We have a bulletin about new ones years ago and like an idiot I did it once after a rush job.

If I hadn't seen the bulletin and the results for my own eyes I would not have known.

Take the bolts out. just remember to loosen the bolts before taking off the belt. and then tighten them fully once the belt is back on.

The power steering pulley might be installed backward. Try reversing it, but if it is even worse after reversing it, then the triangular flange on the end of the shaft has walked forward. It is just pressed onto the shaft. That is what happened on mine: pulley walked forward and cut one rib off the belt. Only cure was a new pump (or a used one) because the flange can't be pressed back on the shaft.
