Holy crap EOD2135, I think your filter was dirtier than mine and that is hard to do! Was your old filter black or was that silt?

Hey I'm about to do this today when I get home. I've got the gasket and filter for my 04. Wanted to check, do I need any "glue" for the gasket like what I would need for the diffs? And do I need a "special" tool to get the filter off? I've read the name of it, but I'm in a hurry at the moment and about to head out the door so can't search for it. Thanks for the help

Joseph

No, no glue. Make sure you have a new gasket and torque the bolts to 8 Nm. I swapped mine to 6Mx1.0 SS allen-heads to avoid corrosion. You may want to put some anti-seize on the threads too.

BTW, you will need a torx screw driver or bit to remove the filter.

I assume I don't want to drill it out; metal filings in your AT aren't really recommended...
get a hammer and chisel and hit the drain plug on the edge to make it turn counter clockwise. That will get it loose and you can replace it.

The Autozone filter kit number is TF186. Includes gasket and o ring. 15 bucks out the door.

Wanted to correct this. The correct Autozone Tran Kit is TF184. Sorry.

I broke off one of the 7/16" hex bolts that holds up the transmission pan. The other bolts seem like they'd be ready to also break if I apply too much torque to unscrew them. I suppose I could drill out and tap new threads but that's not my favorite thing to do on my back. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Where did the bolt snap? The same this happened to me, but when mine snapped, just the head came off. I was able to get a stud extractor on what remained and it backed reight out. Can you take a pic?
