How did Doug at AB remove the fan without a fan clutch tool?
I'm trying to replace my water pump, but I'm stuck at the getting the fan off step. In this video from AB, Doug gets it loose with a wrench and a rubber mallet -- both of which I've got -- no fan clutch tool:
This other video tells me I need to use a fan clutch tool (which I don't have):
Is Doug working sorcery???
Should I just suck it up, pay $50 for this: and return the fan wrench I bought?

If it hasn't been off in a while, it gets quite tight. You need a 36mm fan wrench and a mallet, and just beat the crap out of it. I've found that a wooden mallet (like for woodworking) works great, since you can get some good speed going on it and it transfers energy much better than rubber.
AHA!
I found this other video on AB -- looks like a long screwdriver should do the trick for me w/o having to buy the special tool:

Edit: Yep, long screwdriver was all it needed. Fan is off.

Ah gotcha. Screwdriver works - I have a nice long one from Harbor Freight that works great. Also, in case you aren't doing it this way, it helps bigtime to do it with the belt still on the engine to help keep the water pump from moving
