Default How do I fool my ECU?

First off, I don't want to start and argument thread! So hypothetically speaking of course, how would one fool his ECU to think the engine is warmer than it really is or how would one change the setting for what temperature is normal for the engine? Again, hypothetically speaking!

Basically you want the electric fans to come on earlier? Is that what you're asking?

Not the electric fans. Did the inline thermostat mod so I could get a cooler thermostat so my engine wouldn't get as hot so my liners would quit smacking my heads. It worked except now I get the code for the engine being to cold. Not really wanting to pin my liners or tear the engine back apart for top hat liners.

Isn't the "too cold" warning something crazy low like 150 degrees? What temps are you running?

I have a 160 degree thermostat installed. It heats up rather quickly then hovers around 165 according to my glowshift gauge. I assume it must be set around 170 since the coolest stock thermostat is 180. But I don't really know.

Where could I get one from and what would I have to do to get it to work?

Most 1999 and 2000 didn't have SAI. You'd need someone with a nanocom or autologic or something to sync it with the BCU or the engine won't run. Then you'd need a different fuel pump and wire in the pressure sensor.

I think there are some posts on discoweb where someone gives the details, I may have forgotten some stuff.

Couldn't you just wire a resistor in line with the temp sensor to fool the computer?
