Record the engine sound on your phone and upload it here. Plenty of people can tell you if a liner has slipped from the sound.

Alright, I'm uploading the video. The tick actually isn't super audible so I have no idea if it actually is a slipped liner, but it does show my issue with the oil light and the electrical kind of acting out of whack when starting the car (the car actually stalled out earlier at idle). coolant leak and everything with that should be fixed on tuesday and it smells like its leaking antifreeze so maybe something like that.

who knows though, hopefully you guys can tell me if this is a slipped liner or if this is just a normal (knock on wood) Discovery tick.

Sounds more like an external head gasket or exhaust leak to me.

Slipped liner would make a lot more noise than that. It could just need an internal cleaning to open up the oil galleries in and around the rockers. Try a Seafoam oil treatment, then change the oil and drive it for a couple of hundred miles.

Funny story, I JUST changed the oil today. You think seafoam would help?

I've been getting o2 sensor codes and I'm getting them replaced next week luckily, I was told that this would fix the oil dummy light. Maybe I can get a better video for all of you because this one was kind of poorly filmed.

Did you use a diesel detergent oil? Like Rotella 15w40? Yes the Seafoam is worth a try. The good thing about the Rotella is that it is cheap enough to run a few hundred miles and then dump. Of course inspect it to make sure it gets dark before you do dump and replace. That type of oil will also help in cleaning the gunk out of your rocker assemblies.

I'm not sure how replacing the O2 sensors would fix your oil light.

O2 sensors aren't likely to do anything for your oil light.
Cleaning as I described is what got rid of the tick that I had. Yours might still be a blown head gasket or exhaust leak though. Try to localise the sound by using a screwdriver stethoscope.

Yes! I'm on 15w40. mechanic changed yesterday. O2 sensor is for white smoke the car is tossing out of the exhaust at the moment, it threw codes for it as well. that's a different problem I guess though. I'm gonna go buy a bottle of seafoam tonight, how do you use it? I remember seafoaming my old acura, but that was a bit different.

I was told that the O2 sensors are whats causing the white smoke out of the exhaust. I was told by a Rover specialist that it wasn't a head gasket though because the car isn't showing symptoms of it at all besides the oil light.
