Face it...we can not...tell you one way or the other...if it is absolutely a head gasket issue, slipped liner, low oil pressure, etc, etc...especially, over the internet. We can only give guidence based on the information you supply. Folks have given you solid advice, throughout this topic. There's a certain amount of diagnostics that come into play, while figuring these issues out. Compression test, cylinder leakdown test, coolant/exhaust gases test, bore scope inspection of cylinders, etc...these would answer questions.

I've asked questions that you've never answered. What's the exhaust smell like? Sweet? Was the video shot while engine was cold or hot...no answer. Seems as though everytime someone asks a question...you reply with a question.

Good luck.

Alright basically the problem is that I keep forgetting to respond to people's questions because everytime I login there's another post WITH a question. I'm trying to give the best answers I can but it's difficult because there is so many different things going on with the car. I do appreciate everyone's responses in this thread. I'm just very disorganized when it comes to responding.

Ok to be 100% honest it's most likely NOT a slipped liner after given the information in this thread. Yes, the engine ticks but it doesn't sound anything like the information I was supplied. So scratch that. I'm most likely safe from that.

I have no way to figure out if it's a HG or not because I simply do not have the tools to run a compression test or not. I will ASK my mechanic on tuesday to do it as well. As for now; the exhaust smells of antifreeze, it does NOT blow white smoke at the moment. I'm guessing when I was concerned the most it was colder out and it was blowing white smoke. This was also before I had changed the oil to 15W40 Rotella. I'm guessing that since I was running 5W30 this had something to do with it. Either way, the white smoke is gone for now; knock on wood. I was told that the smell of antifreeze by my non-rover specialist mechanic that it could be the coolant reservoir which leaks AND does need to be replaced regardless.

He also told me about "knocking" going on in the engine (before he changed the oil which seems to have made it quieter?) and offered to pull the pan if I wanted to pay $500. I said no, because I'd rather take it to the nearest rover mechanic who specialize specifically in this who wont charge me that kind of money for that.

As for now the biggest issue is the oil light that comes on while idling occasionally, when it pops up for a second I notice the tachometer drops and then shoots back up. I also notice when this happens SOMETIMES the speakers crackle if I have music playing. Someone told e that it could be a bad CPS. I'm not sure. But the car still hasn't stalled out 100%.

I'm sorry for being confusing and I hope that this clears some things up. Once again thank you for all replying.

The engine has 129k on it. The car had been sitting for a few years and driven only a little bit every couple months.

OK so start with the cheapest option first, compression test, then a gas test on your Rad to see if there any exhaust gas in it, by just doing these two test it could rule out the HG fault in an instant, you need to start doing something to point yourself in the right direction

posted again do the cheap bits first try and rule out the expensive stuff

Checking on the compression and a coolant gas test would be a priority, as said above. A blown head gasket doesn't always leak into the coolant though, so a negative gas test is not a 100% test that you don't have a gasket issue. But wait to see what the results are before worrying one way or the other.
The flickering oil light could be a cracked oil pump gear. Not uncommon. It could also explain some of the ticking that seems to have reduced with a change to thicker oil -- if the rockers and lifters aren't getting a full flush of oil, they can be a little noisy. Thicker oil raises the oil pressure a bit. I would hold off on doing anything about that for the meantime, but I'm adding that to the mix as a possible source for your tick.

Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Tomorrow I'm gonna do these tests!
