Question How much oil leaking is too much?

While idling a drop of oil leaks and falls on the ground every 5-10 seconds. After 10ish minutes of idling, the ground looks like this. Is this too much oil to be leaking? I know the joke is that they are supposed to leak oil...

There seem to be four spots where oil is accumulating. It seems the majority is dripping from off of the oil filter. I think the oil pan is leaking some, but the seal is new since the recent engine rebuild. A few of the pan bolts near the leak tightened more to the spec of 16 lb ft, but it didn't decrease the oil leakage. I don't think oil from the pan seal would be making its way to the oil filter, but I cant seem to find where the oil is coming from. Since the rebuild my dad borrowed and drove it about 1k miles and then parked it for about two months as it was having some other issues I needed to fix, but I was away. He did not have to fill the oil. I did an oil change and changed from 15W-40 Diesel oil to 10W-40 conventional. Not sure if the change of oil caused the leaking, but it seems to be leaking too much oil to not have to fill it for 1000 miles, no?

Crank pulley looks shiny/oily, could be crank seal leaking. Sometimes the pulley develops a wear groove were the seal rubs, that can be repaired with a speedi-sleeve, or new pulley. To find leaks, clean everything well and go up as high as you can see oil after driving. Some folks us UV dye in the oil and a special flashlight, but that can be difficult to pinpoint if it gets all over everywhere.

I’m not generally too afraid of oil leaks, but a drop every 5-10 seconds is too much. Having said that, it wouldn’t bother me to continue driving it (watching the oil level) until I had time to fix it.
My D2 actually doesn’t leak any oil (and yes it has oil). The P38 does leak, but no where near as much as you are talking about.

that is too much - usual culprits (crank seal as was pointed out above) speedy sleeve will take care of that and that is a pretty cheap fix - oil switch (develops leak between plastic and metal part of switch) and a leaking oil line (there are various)

Suggest to get some carb cleaner or good degreaser and clean the area up and then see where the leak/s are coming from and then address

oil switch was leaking on mine pretty bad. I had to replace it because the connector was full of oil and threw a oil light. Definitely clean it up. Ofc mine constantly leaks anything and everything, but I make sure I can go at least a full tank of gas before I need to top fluids off.

The only reason a D2 engine leaks oil is because you have a plugged breather baffle in the passenger side valve cover. Install the PCV mod and then clean the engine using oven cleaner and see if the leaks come back.
