How to Remove Underbelly Panel on '03?
I made sure MINE came off in pieces so I wouldn't be tempted to put it back on like you did. Why did you re-install yours?
Do you have a aftermarket temp gauge? I only ask because if you are going off your stock gauge it won't tell you crap.
My temp will fluctuate between 150F - 220F and the stock needle remains at halfway. I removed my pan before i installed my temp gauge. Other than that, it helps identify leaks before they get out of hand and helps you clean when you power scrub your engine.
I can just get under it real quick and look at everything for leaks and be done.
I was getting ready to change coolant on my '03 today and couldn't get the underbelly panel off to access the lower radiator hose. After looking up a couple posts here there seems to be 2 options - either remove the drag link and steering damper or jack the front up at the frame. I don't have the proper tools for either at this time so I have a couple questions to determine the path of least resistance
Well 03Disco it's good to know that you were able to get your underbelly pan off in ONE PIECE. But it'll also be good if all of us would actually read the question before responding and when doing so give enough detail so that others working on the vehicle isn't confused by your answer. I already found out from another thread that the pan can come out if the frame is lifted. There IS a reason why I asked if your truck was lifted or on jackstands on the previous page so I can more accurately gage the situation. Pardon me for having to remove the steering damper while laying on a piece of cardboard on concrete under the truck with all 4 wheels on the ground. Most people don't have a lift at their disposal.

I think Disco Alan needs a hug. Hard to believe that you're making a big deal about someone saying that it's possible to get the belly pan off in one piece. I'm thinking if I was laying on a piece of cardboard......actually I'd just go rawdog and lay on the ground but anyway.......most people may not have a lift at their disposal but jackstands are pretty inexpensive. Probably cost about as much as that 2-jaw puller you're wanting to use.
03Disco, My previous post was not about the underbelly pan - I was responding to the condescending tone of "how can anyone not be able to figure out how to take the (insert component of your choice) off in ONE PIECE when all it took me was some looking around and a few twists and turns'' while conveniently leaving out the most important premise that allows it to be accomplished. I'm not you so I'll be the first to admit it's purely my interpretation and I certainly wish that I assumed wrong.
I absolutely agree jackstands are inexpensive and are essential for any garage ... which I don't have. Any time I work on the truck it's outside at my uncovered parking space with sand and crap on the ground so a piece cardboard can come in handy. If it comes to a point I need to jack the truck up I'll need to carry the floorjack and jackstands down 2 flights of stairs and across half the complex ... well you get the picture. I already have a set of jaw pullers.
I think I have weaved far enough away from the technical nature of this forum. I originally posted my results just so that the next guy who runs into the same problem searching the forum will have another proven option. Feel free to contact me offline if you want to discuss more.
