HVAC Air Intake Filter

HVAC Air Intake Filter
The so called Cabin Air Filter is a strip of filter material that goes on the cowling below the windscreen, and cost about 25.00. I know some people have purchased some filter media at a much reduced cost and replaced the filter in lieu of the OEM.
This filter is supposed to filter outside air coming from between the hood and windscreen that inters the HVAC system. The plastic cowling is known for cracking/breaking, rendering the filter rather useless.
After removing my blower fan, cleaning(literally full of leaves) and re-lubeing it, I went to inspect the cowling and filter.
After which, I understood why my fan was full of leaves and other junk.
Under the cowling is an intake opening that goes to the blower fan.
I decided to make my own intake opening filter, using some gutter screen(wire mesh made to keep leaves out of your rain gutter on your home) and some filter media that is basically cut to fit for your A/C in your home.
Once I get the exact dimension of the opening, I will cut the wire mesh a little longer so I can epoxy it in(to hold the filter media in place and keep it from being sucked into the opening), then cutting the filter media and covering the wire mesh.
I will post pics as soon as I get it finished.
My Columbus Day project.

The cr@ppy Land Rover filter, apart from being overpriced, falls apart very quickly.
I've found that increasing the number of spring clips holding the filter onto the plenum, makes it last much longer.
