if i'm replacing the blower fan do i need to pull out the entire housing or is there a way to take out the fan without taking out the whole housing?

You can drop just the fan, plenty of threads about this procedure.

I hear you can upgrade it with one out of an 05 Chevy, and get much better air flow...there's at least a few threads about this upgrade too

This is a great step-by-step pictorial that I use every couple of years when I have to clean out my blower fan:

dropped the fan today and had a hell of a time disconnecting the plug. turns out the harness side of the plug had burn marks and was melted some. burn marks on both plugs. i'm going to get some 10 gauge bullet connects and hook it back up to see what happens.

why would the connector melt but the fuse not pop?

i will be testing the fan itself by powering it directly to the battery but i have a new one on the way as a spare if not needed. i figure with 3 D2s i'll need it eventually.
