Default I have the dumbest problems

So, I dropped a nut from the Crank Position Sensor in my yard and can't find it.

I took the remaining nut down to the hardware store. It screws onto a 10-32 screw, so that must be it, right?

Wrong.

It's apparently some size that is a *tiny* bit larger diameter than 10-32 but with the same thread pitch. So, the original nut screws onto a 10-32 perfectly, but a 10-32 nut won't screw onto the CPS post.

Any ideas what size the nut is?

If you dont have a mechanics magnet buy one, if you dont have time to buy one then use a magnet from your fridge, go to the yard, start rubbing the grass, you will find it.

Well, it looks to be a M5 sized nut, which is almost identical to a 10-32. So I ordered a couple since I've hit every store in town and all they have are m4 and m6.

But I do plan to take a magnet out and look. However, it's raining pretty steadily which makes it hard to look, and I think increases the likelyhood that it'll get buried.

Thanks for the help. As much as anything I just needed to vent a bit.

Good luck.
Thats what roofers use to collect nails in the yard after a roof removal job.
Here is what I was talking about, KD Tools KD Tools (Danaher) Swivel Head Telescoping Magnet Pickup Tool 16-3/4 to 26-3/4" - KDT2281 - Tools - Mechanics & Auto Tools - Automotive Specialty Tools, works great for retrieving dropped nuts and bolts that you cant reach, you know, when you drop them down into the frame or under the intake, etc.
