It sounded like a squeak that kept going, is this the front driveshaft chirp? Then like a rumble flutter while coasting at low speeds.
Anyway I removed the front shaft just now and am about to go for a test drive, should Irangate the cdl with ignition on or off?

Did you find out which U-joint was bad? My '94 Jeep ZJ had the exact same symptoms.
When I pulled the U-joint cap closest to the front axle, the needle bearings were as dry as a bone, and some showed obvious signs of flattening, hence the flutter. There was also residue powder from the wearing. There wasn't much time left for a catastrophic failure.
It was a sealed for life joint, replaced with another sealed for life U-joint, cheap repair and took about 20 minutes with the shaft still connected to the vehicle. It would have been a quicker job if I had a proper U-joint press. The hammer and screw driver approach took a bit longer.![Smile](https://landroverforums.com/forum/images/smilies/H5uKDcM.png)
You could do stuff like that to a Grand Cherokee, as nobody exploded shafts at 75mph destroying a $2k tranny.
I still enjoy the Rover more. Tons more character. I went the new shaft-route for piece of mind. I didn't want to hassle with the center ball, the U-joints aren't too bad.
Just make sure you change the center ball, or it will grenade on you despite having all-new grease able u-joints.

Driving feels different without the front shaft, can I go get dirty without the front shaft?
