A trans cooler line poped off on the way home, long story short i fixed the line and its not gonna pop off anymore but i put almost 4 quarts of ATF+ 4 in there just gueesed as was unsure, come to find out was wrong guess.

What next?
Drove truck 3 miles home..
Read on another post that suppose to be dextron III

So im guessing this would be a good time to switch to full synthetic? If so use the same procedure? Drain fill drain fill etc.. Or better yet maybe just have like jiffy lube or somthing do a flush and fill? Thanks again.

 

How many miles on your truck?
May be a good time to switch, yes and if your mileage is low enough and you want to go with a synthetic, that is about the only way to do it and it will envolve a shop with a good tranny back flush machine.

 

And please don't forget to change the filter as well.

 

I recently changed a couple of the tranny cooler hoses.

To refill, I put a leftover bottle of amsoil ATF and then 1 bottle of mobil1 ATF in. Both said they were dextron III compatible.

I dont know if what was currently in there was synthetic, just figured I would put in the best stuff. Was this a bad idea?

 

100k on tranny 0k on motor.
Just spoke with jiffylube they said they cant do it because there system requires a tranny dipstick? I asked for a full synthetic tranny flush.
So that was an easy fail for a lube shop.
So if i do what buzz said fill drain fill drain etc..
Can i do this with the mobil 1 synthetic?
Buy 10 quarts 100 bucks plus tax and a few forearm burns from mufflers?
Also where is the filter buzz? Drop the pan? Nessesary to change?

Filter is behind the pan. You have to take the pan off. Not sure about a DII but on a DI you have a crossmember bar that has to come off in order to drop the pan.

 

Do NOT switch your trans to full syn fluid, you WILL have shift problems, may on the forum have done it, each and every one had a shift problem after wards.
Even after switching back to standard trans fluid the damage was done.

The Jiffy Lube trans fluid "flush" is a complete joke, here is what they do, they remove your dipstick and stick 2 small pipes in, one sucks out the fluid the other pumps in fluid.
You start your engine, shift into neutral, the machine sucks for a min, then puts new fluid in, then sucks out fluid, then puts new fluid in, and so on until they feel the job is done.
Basically all they are doing is diluting the old fluid with new until it is all looking new.
If you want to get the most old fluid out of your trans first change the filter, then go have a trans fluid flush done by a real shop.
Just changing the filter will change about the same amount of fluid as the Jiffy Lube method but you will have a new filter.

 

That trans flush machine BS is a scam. Truth is you will never get that +4 out. If your trans shifts the same, engages the same, reverses the same, leave it alone.
