It will be cheaper to buy tools than pay the labor rate. $1500 buys a lot at Harbor Freight.... and you can buy sets of pre-owned tools at pawn shops. And you can borrow certain tools at big auto parts stores. Or buy a new flat screen and offer it to her as a trade.

regular tools, torque wrench, cheater bar and three foot pipe. Search for excellent posts by Eric Tyrrell and hh65flyer which have photos and running problem list by recent rebuild jobs. Also download RAVE and go to general, overhaul manual, and select your engine, will have plenty of steps. Also budget $200 for machine shop work. 15 hours for experienced mechanic, plus machine shop time. So longer for us mere mortals. There was this one guy who inquired about doing it, I sent him a page from the RAVE, and the next day he had removed the heads and machined them; quicker than most of us could round up all our sockets. Of course, he works at a shop that rebuilds large truck engines, so it was a lunch hour project for him...

Thanks Savannah, I did try the K-seal. It held for a few miles, I had good pressure but I think the leak is too big. Im sure the head is warped.

It does not take much, 2 1/1000ths is max before considered warped. So that is 0.002 inch. The paper in most copiers is about 0.0038 inch thick, we are dealing with pretty close tolerances. Don't try the established shade tree method of belt sander. Might work on grandpa's old Chevy six cylinder, but you'll need a trip to machine shop. At the same time they will replace the valve seals for you (not guides, at the $200 price level).
