Um, no. I just spent $10,000 on a new engine in my work van back in September. We’re not going there again for awhile. I did think about it for a moment though.

I think I'll follow along. Having a Disco as a second vehicle is great.

Hood off is an ideal time to install a coil relocation kit....

Engine is pretty gunned up. From the amount of bolts we found just floating around it wouldn’t surprise us if we find one that mangled a valve. To be continued……snapped a universal socket joint, so done for tonight.

Well, Schmidt. I guess we must go deeper. On the bright side, the head looks ok. I don’t want to do a full rebuild so I’m going to have to find a piston.

Well that is unusual. I have never seen a disco with a broken ring land. I had a boat with a chevy v8 with lots of broken ring lands and mushroomed valves from detonation, boats are bad about getting water in the fuel that lowers the octane resulting in really bad detonation, plus boat motors are basically run WOT a significant period of time. As long as the cylinder is not scored badly replacing the piston should be fine, although at this point you might find it just as quick to just take the motor out, really only takes about 3 hrs from where you are at now. Will make motor work much easier plus you can easily refresh everything with killing your back.
