Hello, I'm finishing up replacing the driver's side upper/lower ball joints on a 2003 Discovery. I couldn't get the upper ball joint in with the press, so I had to hammer it in (with a socket). During the hammering process, a little dimpled disc, with Part number 2502 stamped into it, dropped onto the ground. I don't know where this is from. I checked the brake caliper, under the axle, etc. and couldn't see where it may have originated from. It was dirty on 1 side and clean on the other. Please help me ID this part. Thanks!
Possibly the old one? Because it was very dirty, so I don't think it would be from the new one. The old ball joint was destroyed in the removal process - thrusting the taper/bolt up through the top before pressing out the remaining body. It is possible it fell out of the old one and then the vibration of hammering in the new one jostled it onto the floor. I thought it was some sort of dust seal for the brake caliper or axle...
