Ok for the last few weeks I have been getting a squeal when turning my steering wheel mostly when backing out of a parking spot or at a dead stop I think I found the problem looks like a steering damper or piston what does this do and can I replace it myself without any special tools ?

 

That is one very tired looking steering dampener, sure needs to be replaced and I would only recommend an Old Man Emu replacement found on British Parts of Utah.
Not sure how many miles you have on the Disco or what you use it for but if you are at 100,000 miles and want a better ride, you might want to also replace your springs and shocks at the same time, and yes, it is easy to replace.

Nope!!

 

While I highly doubt that the steering stabilizer is your problem, it's not bad to replace it. If you replace it, it may cover up whatever else is wrong with your steering setup.

 

There's nothing wrong with my steering the damper makes a bit of noise that's all

 

Have you taken it off and compressed it by hand? Do that and report back.

 

its just sqeeting as it compresses and decompresses
whats up with shipping costs from atlantic british they want more than the part for shipping to canada

 

Shipping to Canada from a business involves quite a bit of processing, thus the higher cost.
