Default Idle Valve

Hello to all! Can anyone tell me where the idle valve is located in a 02 disc? My Disc is turning off by its self! The car sometimes loses power and shuts down. The m & s lights come on and blink. The rpm's are going crazy, it goes up and down! Some 1 told me it could be theidle valve. Help please!

I don't think it's your idle valve. If it just shuts off, I'm guessing crank sensor. Not sure about the surging idle speed though.

Anyway, the valve goes from the air intake hose, to the intake.

See the attached PDF for a drawing of what it looks like... basically two L shaped rubber hoses, and the metal valve in the middle.

agreed, CKP is more likely, plus check battery volts and terminals. See Land Rover Discovery II Engine Sensors Available from RoversNorth.com item 6 for IACV.

Clean your idle air control valve with brake cleaner, spray the brake cleaner in and cover it with your hand and shake it as if you had water in it. You might even need to move the valve a with a screw driver and lock it in a position with the screw driver in to get the brake cleaner to all parts.

I had the exact same symptoms, I even got TPS code when the car shut off, I tested TPS, which was fine, I was told that it might be battery or alternator, checked both and were fine. I took the idle air control valve out and it was very dirty and not freely moving, used almost a can of brake cleaner on it and made it like new. never had the symptoms again.

First, his Idle solenoid is not the problem and second, you don't use brake cleaner to clean it, if anything, use carb or better yet t/body cleaner.

Airland, do you have any check engine lights on, if so get back to us with the fault code numbers and in the mean time, don't drive much cause if it is the crank sensor, it can leave you stranded.
