Default Idling problems: rpm`s jumps up and down

Hello Landrover community,

I have a problem with my Disco2 and hope you can help me to fix it.

I am driving a Disco 2, V8, 4l, Petrol, year 2000.

Since a view days the idling goes crazy.
When I have no gear in, the rpm`s jumps up and down: from approx. 700rpm to 1200rpm and back.
Furthermore when I dive very slowly e.g. in traffic jam it is difficult to keep the car calm. It wants always to -jump- forward.

I guess the problem comes from the fuel or air injection. What should I do first to localize the fault?

Thanks for any help

Check for codes with a scanner.

Idle air control valve, IACV could be failing.
Function
The idle air control valve utilises two coils that use opposing pulse width modulated (PWM) signals to control the
position of a rotary valve. If one of the circuits that supplies the PWM signal fails, the ECM closes down the remaining
signal preventing the idle air control valve from working at its maximum/ minimum setting. If this should occur, the idle
air control valve assumes a default idle position at which the engine idle speed is raised to 1200 rev/min
with no load
placed on the engine.

Thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately I don`t own a scanner and the next land-rover workshop is a 3h drive away.
The idle seed is not permanent 1200rpm`s. It is going up and down from a range of 700rpms to 1200rpms.

Clean your throttle body, and IAC motor, and see how it idles after that. A bad MAF will almost certainly trip the CEL.
