Default Idling in neutral or park at 2000+ rpm.

Hello, I’ve been having trouble with my Rover sputtering at traffic lights and stop signs. It only happens when she’s warmed up. Savannah Buzz suggested that I take a look at my vacuum hoses. I found one hose discounted (cruise control) but after reconnecting the hose my problem is still persisting on. She then started idling in neutral or park at 2000+ rpm. I’ve also tested most of my vacuum hoses (the ones that are easy to get to) and I don’t seem o have a vacuum. I'm not sure what’s going on. If anyone can suggest something I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Draw the existing vac route. Find the hose that attaches to plenum or throttle body and attach old fashioned vac guage. Clean IACV and bore it fits into. Go from there.

Have you tested your coolant temp sensor?

I cleaned/tested the IACV about a week ago, my dad has a vacuum gauge and I tested the vacuum from the distributor to the plenum chamber and it showed zero vacuum. I will go check the coolant temp sensor. That would make since because my temp gauge was showing that I was over heating but I knew I wasn’t over heating. My Rover has two temp sensors, which one should I check? How would I go about checking them? Thanks for your help.

Man.. You, and your Rover are having a bad week...

Check the flame trap in the passenger side valve cover. make sure it's not clogged
Check and clean the t fitting by the plenum on the drivers side.

Check and adjust your base idle w/ ac off. pinch off the hose that goes to
the stepper motor and set idle to around 700-800 rpm.
the idle bypass screw is on the throttle housing
release the clamp engine will rev up and maybe keep revving.
shut engine off and restart.
Idle should rev up and settle down.
Clear CEL using diagnostic plug under glove box.
plug in plug
turn on ignition
unplug plug from harness
count to 6
reconnect plug
count to 6 shut off ignition
repeat til codes are cleared
if codes don't clear you will ned to add a jumper wire into the plug
end of the harness

Try it
Good Luck

YAY I fixed it!!!!!!! Turned out I had some mud on the fuel rail and the mud was insulating the rail. My other problem with my car bucking turned out to be a vacuum cap that needed to be removed. She still idles at 2000 sometimes; it’s a 50/50 chance of idling at 2000+ or 800....
