Default I'll buy dinner - if you resolve coolant problem!!

OK - still fighting the Disco II (1999)....

I am having a coolant / overheating problem that will not go away.

I have done the following:

Replaced the Thermostat (housing)
Replaced the hose that goes from the thermostat to the overflow tank
Bled, bled, bled the system (lifted the tank, unscrewed the bleeder screw, etc...)

Here is what's happening:

We can run the car all day long in Park. When we drive it - the temp needle starts creeping to RED.

We noticed that the drivers side of the radiator gets nice and super hot - and the passanger's side is really cold.

The lower hose that comes from the Pass. side of the radiator to the bottom of the termostat housing is cold, while all other hoses are really hot, and have a lot of pressure built up in them.

The heater (vents) is blowing hot air.

Seeing that the thermostat is a week old - I don't think it is it (could be though...)

The overflow shoots out a lot of anti-freeze through the little tube when it gets really hot.

So - what the hell do we do?

Is it the radiator?
Is it the block?
Is it the thermostat?
Is it the water pump?
Is it Miller Time????

I will buy you and your better-half dinner if you can fix this. The Rover is parked 2 1/2 hours south of where I live and I want to get her home!! No real close Rover Stealerships or Authorized garages anywhere around us BTW!!)

Thanks!

Judging by what you say about hose temps and pressure, I'd take a long hard look at the radiator being plugged/partially plugged.

I've got a DI, I don't know how easy it is to get your rad out.

Has it ever been flushed, coolant changed every 2yrs?

luck,greg

Yep, given what you have done already, I would look at replacing the radiator, especially as hot as it has gotten. The water is not circulating properly.

I say plugged radiator too..take the lower hose off and see how fast/how much coolant comes out...full radiator capacity should rush out.

If it turns out to be the radiator, you can pick up a brand new radiator from Radiator Express for $199. I got one from there and it was a perfect fit.

So if I save you a couple hundered bucks on the radiator, do I at least get an appetizer?
