Intermittent 3 amigos after replacing brakes
I just replaced the pads and front rotors on my 03 D II and now I get intermittent 3 amigos. The left front rotor was a bear to get off, rusted really bad, and I had to bang it pretty good with a hammer, a ton of rust came out of the inside of the rotor.
I did a search and see that there is mention of dirt causing the intermittent lights?
I also read that brake squeal can cause the problem? The brakes are squealing really bad - I'll need to work on the pads with some antisqueal this weekend.

Never buy cheap pads for a D2, they squeak and make dust, hence 3 amigos.
Take those pads of and order some ceramic Akebono pads, last longer, no dust, no squeak and stop better. Ypu cam find them on E-bay and Amazon, EUR 676 for the fronts and EUR 493's for the rear. Make sure to do a full 2 quart DOR 4 brake flush when done.

Thanks very much for the reply and the recommendation.
These were the EBC red pads from Atlantic British. The old pads had shims which I re-glued to the new pads but I suspect that was not adequate. I can either replace the pads or try a different approach on quieting these - perhaps remove the shims and just apply permatex or other pad adhesive to stop the pads from bouncing and squealing, or just replace them with the Akebono pads.
I have not heard of EBC pads having problems with squeal but I am not as familiar with LR applications as I am with American cars.

I am actually getting the 3 amigos now too - started off intermittently, but I could almost always get them to come on by braking quickly. Now they are on all the time - I suspect that (at the very least) my rear pads and rotors are shot, so I am going to try there first. Front looked OK, but I'll check while I am there.
Hadn't thought about the full flush - will try that next, thanks Mike!
There has been mention of dirt or brake dust causing this - by this do you mean it causes problems with the ABS sensor? Is that pretty easy to find and clean off, or is that more of a replacement item? I have the RAVE manual, but still interested in people's thoughts for the purpose of the discussion here!
DaddySS, let us know if you get yours resolved and I'll do the same.
Cheers from Down Under!

if you remove the shims, clean everything up and use permatex brake pad bonder you should be alright. But as MD said the best pads to use are the Akebono's, there is literally no dust to trip the ABS sensors with those pads.
Brake dust will cause a noise that the speed sensor sends to the computer as a sign wave interuption which throws a light.
Also, plan on using 2 quarts of DOT 4 and flush/bleed each caliper till you get clear fluid out.

Well I replaced the pads with Akebonos this weekend. The Akebonos are a quality unit, come with the shims attached. I followed the instructions and put a light film of moly (included with the pads) on the shims and sliding surfaces. The brakes are now completely quiet, no lights, and work great.
Thanks for the insight and advice.
