Yea I'm not a fan of blocking a/c vents in the summer.
Maybe one of these will be better, at least it gives you some flexibility of location.

My current phone holder is an imagnet and I think it works pretty much as advertised. Sure, it's not perfect but it's close.

Mines is stashed in the center console. I have a USB port in there that connects to USB 1 on the back of my pioneer nex 8000 that provides the CarPlay integration. Out of sight, out of mind.
