Default issue with coolant loss

Hi. My name is Billy and I am having an issue with my 2003 Discovery II (106000 miles). It seems to be losing coolant. I have been have filled up my coolant every 2 weeks. When I leave area, there is a huge patch where the leak comes down, on the passenger side, under the coolant. Could any body give me feed back as to what my car is experiencing?

Could be lots of things. Cheap end is bad coolant container cap, venting. Then we move up to a leaky hose, somewhere. Water pump can leak around shaft, pulley usually wobbles some. Coolant bottles can leak. Radiator can leak. Valley pan gasket can leak under intake manifold. Models have heated water that goes to the MAF area for the throttle body and warms up incoming air to the engine.

Radiators can leak, as well as any hose connected to them.

Then we move up to head gaskets, with gurgling under the dash, and wisps of white smoke out the tail pipe.

Please check things out thoroughly, you can do a pressure test on the system. Resist the urge to pour in a bottle of "stopz leek". There is also a chemical test you can get from the parts store to test for combustion products in the water, might show head gasket problem. Do all the spark plugs look OK and the same?

Not all of these will show up on passenger side.

It did recently overheat. I poured some coolant in and it swallowed it right up! Where is this coolant going? I'm scratching my head. It appears to be doing two things: Leaking coolant, and now that it appeared to overheat, swallowing coolant.

I have the same problem with Discovery 2, 2001, 85K. It needs around 0.7 pound of coolant to be added once in three-four days. I have heard there are some special liquids, which you can pour and will fill the "holes" where the coolant is leaking from. Is it true? I have not tried myself. Do you have any experience with such liquids?

not being there I cannnot tell you where it is leaking from .. but I would suggest that you stop driving until you can trace the issue. If you continue to drive you run the risk of cooking your motor,, then the coolant leak will be irrelevant. There are many threads on this forum dealing with coolant leaks. you should do a search. Also do you have an independent land rover mechanic close by. not the dealership.. I am not an expert but sounds as if you need new head gaskets. As for putting in some additive to Plug the leak.. I can only say that my understanding is this is not a good idea unless you are stuck somewhere deep off road and are looking to get yourself back to a main road where you can get towed. if they do work for a bit it will also end up gumming the radiator and possibly area within the water jacket dimishing the needed flow to keep the engine cooling system working normally.
keep us posted and good luck

Do not use any of those liquids it will ruin you cooling system, you need to have your cooling systems preasure tested to see where the cooling is going. There are plenty of places that it could be leaking from that you can not easly see. Either preasure test the system or add dye to the system and use an ultraviolet light to find the leakage. If your truck is over heating stop driving it, these are aluminum engines and will turn into junk quite easily if continually overheated. Get back when you find out where the leak is so that we can help you with the repair.

Taking it to do a pressure test to see where the leak is coming from. Possibilities: Could it be my thermostat?

UPDATE:

I have not got my vehicle to the pressure test but this is something interesting that I want to share and maybe somebody can give me some insight. My car has not been running since Monday afternoon. I put my key in the ignition and turned it (NOT Starting it up) and the temp gauge still goes all the way to red. The red indicator turns on. How can the engine be hot if it has not run for two days?!?

- - Again, Is it my thermostat?
