Default Its like Christmas everytime I brake

hi guys,
i got a good deal on a 2003 discovery se, or maybe not. when i apply heavy brake pressure the abs/tc/hill descent/brake lights all start flashing like a christmas tree. also when i start the truck and i press the brake down to shift from 'P' the brake pedal feels like it is modulating. any ideas what this may be? too, the parking brake doesnt hold the vehicle in place.

thanks ahead of time,
~J

If your car was sitting for a while before you bought it, there could be some oxidation/crud on the rotors. Drive it around for a week or so till the rotors are shiny again after regular use. Those 3 lights are known as the "3 amigos" and a search on this forum will reveal tons of info on it. However, before you get into replacing the ABS modulator or shutter valve, drive it around for a while. Mine went away after a week and a half of regular driving (i.e., after the rotors were back shiny and under regular daily use.)

About the parking brake - is this your first Land Rover? Unlike some other cars, your car's parking brake works on the transmission not the brakes - therefore it will roll a little more than what you might be used to.

The ABS modulator does a self test when you start the truck, so if you are releasing the key and then dropping it in gear straight away you need to chill out and wait 30 sec after starting before putting it in gear.

If that does not help with that then work on the 3 amigo's.

As for the 3 amigo's, do a search and read up, could be anything.
