Wanted to say hello - was already 'welcomed' to the world of Discovery II ownership - Got home and the already known to be sticky key is stuck in the ignition so... it's a true welcome to ownership! Will be looking for advice and sharing info on our new (to us) '03 Discovery 2 SE7. From Illinois, and my son is 16 and has been researching and searching for the right one since he got licensed almost a year ago and finally got his today. I don't think I've seen this human happier. Will definitely be a bonding journey and am very happy for the opportunity. Glad to be here. Tried all of the searched tips tonight on getting the key out to no avail - hoping battery won't drain before we can keep on with it tomorrow.
Anyway, hi!

Jiggle it. Puff some graphite into the keyhole and wiggle it. The keylock has to think that the key is in precisely the correct spot before it will release, so twist it up and down 1 position.
Also, sometimes you need to "release pressure" on the key by slightly turning the steering wheel.
Good luck and congrats!

Also, make sure it's in P(ark) - to be sure, start the car, move it from P to D and R, then back to P .... it might be as simple as that. don't ask me how I know

Haven't brought mine home yet (next week, fingers crossed) and already planning to do this in the next couple of months.
Not only do I have to wiggle the key to start the motor, but that push-in security feature is broken and I can't remove the key. This seems like the best option to solve both. Good luck. If anyone has a better fix for both ignition key problems I'd love to hear about it.
