Default Just Changed Discovery I Transmission Filter

In a chance to save my transmission I decided to change the Filter.

Boy if this doesn't work putting in a new transmission will be a real Pain.

Tools Needed.
TWO ratchets with two 17mm sockets and ratchet wrenches are helpful. 17MM is not the only size needed but you do need two of them.

LOTS OF EXTENSIONS

Ratchet U joint

Allen Wrench

Torx Bit

Pb Blaster

Drain Fluid First it was a 6 or 7mm allen wrench.

STEP ONE: Remove 4 02 SENSORS [17MM]

Remove Exhaust Pipe, section from Y to exhaust manifold. Before you can slide it out you might have to drop the Front sway bar from where it connects to the frame[17MM]. Itll swing down.

Step Two: Or Three: To Hell With Steps:

Remove Cross Member, Unbolt 4 17mm bolts on each side. [17mm is used alot in this DIY]

Wear earplugs and knock the CROSS MEMEBER OUT, OR AS I did forward.

Step BLAH:

Loosen nut that attaches dipstick tube to Transmission Pan.
CAUTION: This didn't work for me, Im not even sure if it really is a nut anymore. I BENT the transmission pan trying to loosen this nut quickly bent
it back and came up with a better idea.

There is a peice of metal that attaches the dipstick tube to the ...Frame? Engine? I don't know I couldn't see but I did remove it. But it was not help as the transmission pan wasn't going to slide down with that big support attached to it. So what did I do? SAWS-ALL. Its not needed anyways. With that removed the transmission pan and dipstick tube slid right down and out.

Replaced transmission filter and cleaned pan.

Replace transmission pan followed by cross memeber.

Replace Muffler Followed by CUSSING trying to line up the holes and stripping nuts and bolts and breaking bolts in half. Followed by replacing sway bar.

Start Truck to have LOUD exhaust realizing you forgot to tighten the 2 remaining bolts on each side of the exhaust manifold[because you stripped the other ones.]

Tighten everything and clean up.

Took me from 10.30am to about 5:00

Not rushing but steady on it.

Thanks for the good laugh tonight! Glad you got it done at least, and long live your transmission.

Id have to say it did. It definatly is not driving bad anymore, BUT....

I had a friend check the transmission fluid during the previous ordeals that lead up to this. I was busy trying to fix major problems. I believe he only checked it while it was in in park. Wether or not the fluid level changed that much, im not sure of..

BUT it drives much better now. It took 7 quarts of Transmission fluid and I added 1 bottle of lucas transmission slip stop
