Default Front HUB Assembly and brake issues

I need some help on my 00 Disco. I noticed an issue when driving at slow speed coming from the front end. The truck almost felt like it was struggling to go without pressing on the gas at certain points of the tire rotation. I took it to a garage to get the Oil changed, and they inspected the car for me. They told me the front Hub assemblies need replaced. They also said the front caliper looks damaged from heat. The mechanic said it appears the front brakes have been pressing on the rotors when driving. I thinks this is the feeling that I have been noticing at slow speeds. I am just not convinced the Hub assembly would cause this. Any advice?

thanks

You took it in for an oil change, do you do any work on it yourself?

Be prepared to spend some major bucks if you have a shop replace the hubs and do the brakes for you. Not a problem if you have plenty of disposable income, they will gladly help you dispose of a few thousand for new hubs, rotors, pads and calipers.

Good luck.

Yea, I normally do all the maintenance but since I moved into a townhouse community, they don't like me changing the oil there. I changed the front rotors and brakes about 2 years ago, so I am comfortable replacing the caliper, brakes and rotors, but I need to find out if the Hub assembly is causing the issue. What else could be causing the brakes to engage?

Sounds like a bad caliper. Its probably sticking and warped your rotor. If your rotor is bad enough itll act just like your describing. Id take that wheel off and take the caliper off and see if it spins smooth. If you still have the same problem then id start looking for a new hub.

Sounds like a sticky caliper to me.
No a bad hub will not cause a caliper to stick.

I changed the rear brake clipers on my 97 DI about two years ago. I just remenberred I have some good pics of old and new calipers. Old were the original LR, new are ProLine from Rovers North. Take a look. One of my old ones was so corroded, one mounting bolt sheared. I burned up a Dremel tool cutting the caliper in half with a carbide blade. I ended up beatin it apart with a mini-sledge and a chisel. What a blast that was.

I like the new ProLine caliper with its chem finish. Price was righteous compared to OE. Your caliper piston is probably dragging. The ProLine Caliper new is only a few bucks more than parts to rebuild originals, and they are direct replacement bolt-in. NICE ONES.

Get your truck out of that shop. Do you have the 3 amigos? Sounds like a stuck caliper to me. If your hubs were bad you would have front end shaking at certain speeds. Jack up the front end and pull the wheels towards you, is there any play?

Thanks for the help. I am going to change out the caliper this weekend and throw some new pads on.

I do have the three amigos on but they have been on for a while. I am just too cheap to pay the dealership to diagnose the problem. I had the modulator replaced and they were off for 6 months and then came back. Not sure if it is just a bad sensor.

Again, thanks for all the help. This forum has saved me so much money with my Disco.

actually you being cheap could have cost you the truck. the abs light will tell you that the air gap is too large and the wheel bearing is the problem.

how about putting the car on jack stands and checking the hubs for play.

if they are bad they will have lots of up and down and side to side play. you will see them move separately from everything else.

If they are bad well if everything is rusted up send it to someone to get replaced. cause they suck without the right tools.
