Default Just picked up a really nice 2000 Kinversand D2 , a few questions for everyone!

Hey guys, I'm not new the Land Rovers, But I am new to D2's. I have a 1995 Range Rover 4.0 SE which i've owned for 4 years now. I am getting ready to sell it as I picked up a 2000 D2. It's in amazing condition and has 149k. Now I bought it for a amazing deal, and this is because it needs a new head gasket. I have changed the head gaskets on my RR about 2 years ago and it was actually not so bad to work on to be honest. I know these engines are extremely similar so I bought it today knowing what I am getting into. I just had a few quick questions for everyone;

1.The engine starts and runs fine, I can see where the coolant was coming out on the driver side, but how do I know if the head is cracked? is there anyway to tell from the outside or do I have to take it all apart first?

2. I know there are a lot of LR owners in Colorado that do a lot of DIY. I wanted to see if any you guys in or near Colorado would like to come join me for a DIY head gasket day. I will supply food and beverages!! I can do it alone as I have in the past, but I read a post with a member here suggested the local LR guys have get together and work on a vehicle together and I thought it would be a great experience and chance to meet new people!

There really isn't a definitive way to test for a cracked head with the head still installed. A cracked head, while possible, is very unlikely with an aluminum head. Warpage from an overheat could be an issue, but generally speaking - it's very likely just the gasket.

between a cylinder leak down test and a coolant pressure test you can get a good idea if it's cracked or not. call mike, he can help you out.

also you can run dye in the coolant and see where it comes out.
