Ha... I have the same problem, except the parking garage at DF/W airport. Hence, I'm picking up a RRS in addition to the Disco

From there I was sold and did a bit of research and spent a month trying to find a suitable disco.

I've had mine for almost 2 years now and with 30,000 miles of abuse and after doing head gaskets, blowing out the rear differential and smashing the front end she's still getting me to work everyday and surprisingly she has never left me stranded anywhere *knocks on fake wood trim* ... just dies in the driveway now and then.

I just kind of fell into mine. Well, actually the neighbor's tree fell into it. Smashed the back end of our '99 and completely smashed my Montero Sport. With that fiasco, we bought my sis-in-law's '04 D2 (she upgraded to a '08 LR3). We got the '99 repaired and now I drive it. Wife drives the '04. We have a few Land Rover's in the family:

'99 D2 (mine)
'04 D2 (wife)
'08 LR3 (sis-in-law)
'00 Freelander (mom-in-law) I'm guessing on the year, can't really remember
'12 Range Rover (sis-in-law's boss and the main reason we all have a Land Rover)

It just occured to me It's like climbing a mountain, If you have to ask you will never understand. There is really no answer that explains it.

I grew up watching Daktari so I always wanted a Land Rover. Since the Series vehicles are hard to get here I opted for the Discovery.

I have always preferred off road type vehicles and started driving with a 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 and later on had a turbo diesel Isuzu Trooper 2. And the car I owned just prior to my Disco was an '89 Chevy Suburban with a dying AC and transmission so the time was right!

As a mountain climber and back packer who often tramps across the US, I can completely understand this. I do like to hear some peoples explanations though because I don't even know the words to express my passion for my land rover

For many I guess it could be things like:
the potential for adventure (off road whenever, make your own expressway ramp)
a cheap luxury vehicle that others barely afforded (and barely maintained)
Euro vs bland American design (brick vs box)
solid heavy vehicle (with mpg to match)
easy to work on (important as it is a frequent chore)

Perhaps one day I will upgrade, once I wear out the D1.
