just though i'd share... would anyone do this with thier D2?
Well prepared , OK, older and bad gaskets, not so good. Seems too close to depth limit with stock air intake. Obviously easier with diesel than petrol. Driver number three a little too fast and following too close IMHO, too much bow wave. Lucky current didn't make them shove against the wier and leave a racing stripe... the truck, when "wading" is displacing a volume of water, and like a battleship, is trying to float. So it would not take much cross current to shift your path.
But I'm sure they had a good time!

I'd do it.
While driving in deep water the bow wake actually creates a cavity under the engine so the air intake stays nice and dry.
The only things that really get wet up front as the axle and oil pan.
Notice you dont hear the belt squealing? Like they do when they get wet.

Not been across there in a Disco but I have been through there in a defender 90 with a 300 tdi, luckly as the door seals were so shot then the ingress of water kept the 90 from floating the 90. Went through with a 2 1/4 petrol lightweight that made it through as well, and he had the standard oil bath air filter where I had a snorkel fitted. Its a fantastic road thats in the south west part of the UK
another good technique for a crossing like this is taking a tarp and closing the hood on it so it hangs in front of vehicle/ radiator. It causes an eddy effect and not so much water enters engine compartment. I also had snorkeled my exhaust on a landcruiser I had years ago...
we do that a few times a year in New Jersey.
