Default key

well i bought my 96 disco used and it didnt come with a land rover key it came with a ilco branded key and didnt come with a alarm system remote to lock and unlock and stuff from a distance. how much would it cost from land rover to get land rover branded key and remote?

and how much would it be topossiblyget a new ignition because in order for the key to turn the car on i have to put the key in and pull it out a bit in order for it to turn on.

The original LR key is made of steel, my LR dealer sold them but refused to cut them. You can find them on ebay as well. cost about 18.00 at a dealer for just the key. i was quoted about 120.00 on the remote. And then another 80.00 for them to program it, and takes about an hour. I will end up gettin an after market alarm with keyless entry on it instead. for 200.00 you can get a nice car starter, alarm, keyless entry viper system.

you do NOT have an ignition problem, its a badly cut key. i had the same problem with my ilco. I bought a set of JMA key from a reputable seller on ebay, good keys from spain. cut freehand two keys and shiped them for 20.00. Plastic head keys.

www.atlanticbritish.com will sell you keys, you can have them cut almost anywhere. But with a bad key to copy from it might be difficult.
The dealer can cut you a key using your VIN#, and there is no good reason they wont do it. You might have to show proof of ownership, like registration with your name on it.

On a 96 you can program the remote yourself.
The key on has no chip in it so any key shop can cut one.

That is not a bad price for having a genuine key made by the VIN#. It was $25 for my wifes Volvo.
