Default Key fob eats batteries

Ok, so this is kinda weird. 99 Disco is eating key fob batteries. Put a new one in, works fine for a few hours. Next day it is dead as a door nail. 2 down so far. Original LR key fob.

Any ideas? Anyone else ever see this?

Mine got wet and did that for awhile.

It started working again fine (and not eating batteries) after a few days.

Then I lost it.

Don't think so, because the red led is not always on. Don't think it got wet, but I can definitely give a the once over with electrical contact cleaner.

It does seem a bit bizarre...
