Default Key fob eats batteries

Ok, so this is kinda weird. 99 Disco is eating key fob batteries. Put a new one in, works fine for a few hours. Next day it is dead as a door nail. 2 down so far. Original LR key fob.

Any ideas? Anyone else ever see this?

possibly a bad micro switch in the remote, always sending a signal?

Mine got wet and did that for awhile.

It started working again fine (and not eating batteries) after a few days.

Then I lost it.

Don't think so, because the red led is not always on. Don't think it got wet, but I can definitely give a the once over with electrical contact cleaner.

It does seem a bit bizarre...
