Wheeler, how does that fob close up? the other one has screws to secure both half's together. The one you mentioned does not have anything keeping it together.

As posted earlier, I ordered this:

Uncut Blank 2 Buttons Flip Folding Remote Fob Key Shell Case for Land Rover | eBay

Some key duplication research revealed that the normal way to start is to line the keys up by the shoulders. Obviously this doesnt work in our case...they have to line them up by the tip.

Armed with that knowlege, I tried to take it to an old school key and lock shop, but his power was out due to storms. I then went to an ACE hardware where the key cutter was a high school looking kid. Against my better judgment, I explained the deal with the shoulders and let him give it a try.

He got one side cut perfectly. However, the big nub on the end for the swivel post wouldnt allow the key to fit into the machine the reverse way. I now have to find someplace with a different kind of machine.

Wont be sure until I can get the other side cut, but it seems if you give the cutter the tip alignment info it'll come out ok.

I think so, but I would have to punch the little dowel out. Worried about breaking it.

Ok, success...kinda.

Pushed out the dowel (that was embarrassingly simple) and got the other side cut.

Went to a Hardware Hank. The key cutter noticed that the first machine he tried was not making a fine enough cut. He used the other machine they had and finished it up. The finer cut is very evident.

So, the key will turn when inserted one way, but not the other. Im not sure if the round cut or fine cut is the one that is working. Will post pics in a bit.

Heres the pic.

You can see one side has fine little steps in it.

The key only turns with that fine side down.

Does this mean the rounder side is the one that works?
