Its probably just not relizing that its in park, try moving through the gears and really firmly click into park, and see if that helps. when i first got mine i got it stuck a bunch of times, never knew what was wrong. i played around with it and eventually it came out, what i figured out was that if you put it into park softly or gently like it doesnt send the signal to the solinoid to drop, so just fuddle it back into park and perhaps it will work. if not, maybe your solinoid is shot.
Hey all,
trying to figure out which nut has to be adjusted to get the truck fully in park. I’m seeing the same issue where my key is getting stuck in the ignition.
DII is different than DI, you just need to adjust the xyz switch. Put the shifter in park, set the ebrake, loosen the adjuster on the cable under the truck, put the trans fully in park using the lever on the side of the transmission, put the shifter all the way in park again, tighten the adjuster. Check to see that everything works ok.
This happened to me close to 15 years ago at the beginning of a family vacation.
Drove from Charlotte to somewhere just before DC and stopped for dinner. The key wouldn't come out of the ignition. Luckily I was using a plain key in the ignition at the time and had the keyless entry fob with me so I used it to lock and unlock the truck for the rest of the trip.
Nonetheless I was a little on edge the next week to Boston and back because the key was plainly visible in the ignition switch parked in hotel parking lots, a B&B on the Cape, in a Back Bay hotel parking garage and at all the attractions where we stopped. Happily no one took advantage of the key being in the ignition the whole time.
I got home and did the research to learn all about the XYZ switch. Big fun. Got a new switch and all was well. For another eight years anyway. Until the XYZ failed again and the truck wouldn't start in either P or N. That time I got a used switch because by then new ones were over $600.
I now carry a spare I pulled from a boneyard truck. I should take it apart and refresh it, then install it. Maybe later.
I did not see this fix posted anywhere - so I am sharing.
2000 Disco2 the Key Fob broke off in the Ignition and the Key was stuck. I removed the solenoid (which did not help) but eventually stumbled across the fix.
There are (4) position for the Key on the Disco2 and if you look closely at the cylander they are marked as "0", "1", "2" and "3".
Using a pair of small channel locks, I was able to better grip the key stub (fob was broken off), and by pushing in, was able to rotate the key stub into position "0"
Once moved to position "0", the key easily was removed.
Hope that is helpful to someone out there.
