Can't remove key from ignition
I have a 95 Discovery. I can shift gears fine, and have no problem putting the car in park, but I cannot turn the key all the way to the O position to remove it, I can turn it far enough that it will not discharge the battery, but then it's stuck. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem and thought I'd solved it with thinking it was a bad key. But still have the problem intermittently. Sometimes it will work fine, most time it doesn't. I've heard it could be tied to the brake light switch. But I'm thinking it might be the ignition lock is on it's way out and needs to be replaced.
Does anyone have any solid insight on this? Thanks!

Sounds like your tranny linkage is a little out of adjustment , not allowing your to get all the way into park. Should probably try to have some one adjust it.

Thanks, Disco Mike. Hmmm. That's interesting. It doesn't seem like i'm having an issue putting the shifter into park. Seems to go right into park just fine. Again this is an intermittent thing with the key. Like today, I couldn't get the key out all day while at work but on my way home the key came out.
Does thatstill sound to you like it could be a transmission linkage adjustment problem and not an ignition lock or brake light switch problem?
Thanks!

So you are saying you can remove the key while driving?
Is your key warn out, do you have a back up key, if so you might want to use it after blowing out the key tumblers.

No, sorry. I meant that when I got home and turned the car off, put it in park, the key came out just fine.
I've tried both keys I have and the same thing will happen. Another example, this morning I left for work, stopped to get coffee, put it in park and when I turned the car off the key would not come out. Got my coffee, continued on to work. Got to work, put car in park, turned key and it came out fine.
I've lubed the ignition lock, used graphite powder, but didn't really change the behavior of it.
I could look into getting new keys made. A mechanic has told me it could also be a faulty brake light switch but I don't seem to have any other expected problems that would lead to that being bad.
Having said all thatdoes this still sound like your first thought that it could be tranny adjustment needed?
Thanks Mike

Thanks Landzu. I'll give that a try. This key problem seems to be fairly consistent in that it happens mostly when the engine, etc., is still cold and hasn't had a chance warm up.
seems i have developed a similiar prob........ mine wont turn off the engine sometimes..... even after moving and shifting the tranny...... sometimes i can just spin the key around and around and it wont engage....... someitmes it will work in the door lock someitmes it wont.... i see the anti theft light on too..... is the alarm system freezing things up. had to pull plugs to kill the engine.........ughhh one good thing came of it though.... found my rotor cap was arcing nice blue arcs....... lol so i need help! how expensive is a new ignition switch?
