I would certainly spend the $100 to get a key cut and programmed. You can get them off ebay cheap and find an automotive locksmith to program them.
$100 is a good deal if you call dealership for it else an automotive locksmith like bayonne locksmith near me can program it for $79.

Hello,
Looking to get some spare keys programmed for my 2004 G4, I have the blanks from Amazon:

(TG Auto 2 Buttons 315Mhz Smart Keyless Entry Car Fob Remote Key For 2004 Land Rover Discovery
Amazon Amazon

I found a locksmith who can cut new keys to factory specs but he doesn't have a programmer for land rovers. I am in Eugene, OR, if anyone has a Nanocom or other programmer close by...

I have IPA's or whiskey and talk Land Rovers for hours!

Jon

Jon, I used to work at the dealer up in Portland before moving south to San Diego. I often sent my Eugene customer to The Sports Car Shop on 6th AVE. They are super helpful and work on Rovers, I believe they have the equipment to program your remote. You might want to give them a call: (541) 342-1520

yeah that seems weird...not sure why someone would implement a 'helpful' bot that is giving pretty useless advice but here we are
