KTV Black and Blue Gasket Sealant
Looking for some input on the black and blue RTV gasket sealers. I'm reassembling my water pump, and front cover and sump. I know not to use too much black RTV on the oil seals so not to clog up the oil pick-up in the sump. I also read about making sure to properly cover the cover seams to avoid leaking.
I guess my main question is on the water pump. Should I go blue RTV on the water pump gasket or still go with black. Any experience with this replacement would be helpful. I know there is other sealant out there but this is what I have right now.
Thanks

You don't necessarily need any sealant. Putting sealant on gasket defeats the purpose of the gasket (in most cases) Just clean your mating surfaces impeccably then finish it off with some rubbing alcohol and new, dry gasket. The technique is in the surface prep and fastener tension. You torque your fasteners in 2-phases and use a mild/medium Loctite on fastener threads. The workshop manual is helpful on topics such as this. The RAVE will note where any sealants are to be used and usually a seperate notation on the type/grade.
26-2-19 of RAVE
No mention of sealant so def not required, if you want to see for yourself. Torque spec is 18/ft-lb.
