I bought my truck used w/ little maintenance history and have been thinking of having a good look over by a pro. Vaskens Doctor Auto Tech in Hermosa Beach, CA is the closest LR specialist to me. For $180 they look it over, and use an expensive diagnostic tool called the "Rover Cam?" Is this worth it?

 

$180 will (nearly) buy you 6 of quarts of mobile 1, a mobile 1 301 oil filter, 2 cans of seafoam, 5 quarts of ATF fluid, an air filter, 1 quart of dot 4 brake fluid, 6 quarts of gear oil, 2 jugs of coolant. That and a couple weekends of work and you will be sure that everything is OK.

I think $180 for a diagnostic is kind of crazy.

 

especially if they dont fix anything just diagnose

 

Yeah I'm sure they will find something.

 

What a huge waste of money. If you have no warning lights on, they will find nothing.
Spend a couple hours and crawl all over your own truck, if you see anything of question get back to us. Then plan on doing my service, listed at the top of this section, time you are done with it, your truck will run much better and you'll know what makes it tick if you have a problem in the future.
