Larger alternator..need BIGGER than the RR
I was under the impression that the P38 alternator is only 150 amp. Did they make a 180 as well? Also, don't the high amp alternators put out like half of their rated amperage at idle? Seems like that may be something to consider as well when going with a really high output unit.
Winches draw up to 500amps. It makes sense the support the battery with a higher powered alternator. In addition it reduces the recharge time of the battery. Some run compressors, electric water heaters and have dual-battery setups, which can push a stock alternator over its limits.
my car audio is at 2000 watts and, I’ve got a winch and I will be running compressor, fridge, dual battery etc.
Regarding upgrading the factory wiring, my understanding is that the alternator would have to ability to provide more amperage than what the factory shipped with the truck, but that this fact alone wouldn't have an adverse effect on existing equipment. IE, you wouldn't need a different battery, or multiples even, to handle the additional amperage. The existing electronics would still draw the same amperage regardless of what the alternator is capable of pushing out. Anything additional requiring high amperage should have wiring designed for the job and not use factory wiring. I'm not an EE however.
Luckily we still have an actual alternator shop not too far away. I'm going to bring them a worn one and ask them if they can do anything with it.

Does anyone have experience with the Denso remanufactured alternators? Or what brand seems to be the "best" based upon real world experience.
