Still think 2-3 seconds is normal. Not a vehicle on earth can get instant oil pressure to everything in 2-3 seconds.

Engines are constantly wearing down bit by bit. Thats why cold starts are probably the most damaging time to an engine honestly. All the oil is in the bottom end/sump, and until it pumps up to the top there is going to be a short time where the engine sounds loud until the oil reaches the moving parts. Hot starts = engine has oil freshly coating everything so zero noise.

 

I've done 3 headgasket jobs now and I know they are tight but I was rushing to put it back together so that is a possibility I guess. In what way would they be upside down though? Just thinking off the top of my head I can't think of it mattering the direction as long as the push rods are aligned with the rockers? I didn't disassemble the rocker shafts, just removed and reinstalled.

 

The oil hole in the rocker shaft is supposed to face down, if the all the rockers or all the mounting post somehow spin 180 it is technically feasible if not likely. I actually left the bolts loose once, had low oil pressure until I pulled the valve covers and tightened them.
