LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT
Hi everyone once again... It's cold, like 7-10 degree's the past 2 mornings... start the rover and get a low oil press. light shut it off and restart and the light goes off... is it simply that the oil is just real thick and nothing to worry about or could it be my oil pump now on the fritz... 03 d II Anyone else see this when it's that cold outside...? I am running 10-30 oil in it...

What year Rover and how many miles?
No this is not normal, especially with that light oil.
If it is an 03, this will be the beginning of the end if you have one that falls within Rovers vin list. If not then either you have a bad pressure switch ,plugged oil pick up tube or a failing pump.

Yes the low oil pressure light being on right after start up when it is cold is normal, start the truck in the morning, how long does the oil light stay on?
Any longer than 10 seconds and you have a problem.
You have been turning the engine back off just before the oil light is about to go out, it doesnt come back on the second time you start it because you have started it to flow through the engine.
Your cars have always done this you just never noticed because you are paranoid about owning a '03.

thanks, I am used to having an actual gauge... and yes, I am somewhat paranoid about having the 03... she's got 63k on her... It does extinguish b/f 10 seconds... I guess all I can do for now is keep an eye on her... other than that she is a great running truck.

Cessna,
If it continues, get it down to your mechanic, leave it over night, have him hook up an oil pressure guage before starting it and test for pressure 4 ways, cold at idle, cold at 2000 RPMs, warm at idele and warm at 2000 RPMs. If the numbers aren't right, consider replacing the oil pump, this is a short term fix, till the new pump also fails, but it will buy you some time so you don't have to replace the engine now but later.

Thanks Mike, it seems at oat above 18-20 degree's on a cold start she doesn't do it... I will keep an eye on it and if it progressively gets worse then, I will get her looked at... unfortunatly, she'll have to go to Grand Rapids B/C I do not trust the local indy shop who works on these things... to bad B/C I live within 1 mile of them...
