Having fun with my newly acquired 99 D2. First the CPS now a broken rear view mirror that looks like a lava lamp. Saw the defective Donaldson mirror issues. Looking to swap out but trying to stay away from the same junkyard lava mirror. Any aftermarket mirrors out there that don’t require major surgery to install?

also - remove your mirror immediately if it looks like a broken lava lamp. Fluid did quite a bit of interior staining when some of it leaked out.

 

03-04 Rear view Mirrors are excellent

 

There is an online outfit in Texas that will replace the mirror glass for not much $. I am happy with the results after 1 1/2 years. Previous attempted fix with used mirror resulted in more lava.

 

I was not aware there are differences between the pre-facelift and facelifted Disco. I searched and can't find any info on this. What are some of the key differences?

 

The 99 D2 basically had the rearview out of a D1. Map Lights, no compass, and it leaked... D2 from 01 I think switched to the newer style with a compass, no map lights, and with or without HomeLink.

 

Is it safe to assume that the 01 and up models do not have the fluid in them that eventually fails?

 

Had the same issue with the mirror out of my '99. Honestly- the best solution for me was to go to the wrecking yard and pull one (literally). You have to connect the wires back up, but you're going to have to do that anyway.
