Default lean and rich codes + rattle in the cats

I have had codes for mixture too lean banks 1 & 2 as well as mixture too rich banks 1 & 2 for about a year. I have had head and intakegaskets replaced, new wheel sensor, new MAF all in the last couple months. Through all this the codes keep coming back.

the latest is an intermitant stumbling/low idle and twice it has stalled sitting at a light. I cleaned the throttle body and stepper motorput ina can of B&G 44k and have run about half of it through with little or no improvement. I got in the truck this morning and can hear arattle in the exhaust ( cat on driver sideI believe).

My plan of action is new cat on both sides,O2 sensors front and back, new plugs new wires.even though I have no codes associated with any of these items or do I ? I really don't like throwing parts at a problem until it is fixed but I have no idea what is the real issue.

Anyone had similar issues ?

Anyone advise would be appriciated?

Thanks
Alan

You need a good old fashoned tune up, O2 codes 98% of the time mean bad plugs and wires.
And because you ran it so long with bad plugs and wires you burnt up your cats and that is why they are rattling, the guts are falling apart.
So, you need Magnecor or Land Rover plaug wires and new spark plugs.
The rough idle and stalling while at a stop light is because of the bad plugs and wires.

I'm confused how it's possible to have a lean and rich code at the same time. Not sure what 1174 and 1175 are. I've looked them up online and only found those codes under BMW. I think that you need to do a good tune up with Magnecor wires, plugs and probably an air filter.

P1174 - Lambda control adaption fault bank 2.Last occurrence - maximum signal
P1175 - Lambda control adaption fault bank 2.Last occurrence - minimum signal

After a little more searching this is what I found for definitions of these 2 codes. Hope someone else can translate them. I still thinking these codes are being cause bad plugs and wires.

Default RE: lean and rich codes + rattle in the cats

Sorry it took me so long to get back I was hoping to post a fix but no such luck. the rattle in the cats has stopped I think whatever was rattleing is now carbon glued to something else. I ran the rest of the 44k thru and filled it up with 91 (all I can find here)the engine died immediatly after staring at the gas station but started back up quick and ran fine. I then put new plugs in (NGKs) and the truck runs better/smoother above 2000 rpm but stillidles rough. If I get on the gas from a stand still or rolling start I get a stumble or hesitation and then it takes off and runs fine. If I give it gas in park or N no hesitation, if in D hesitates for a second then jumps to. I still think I may have a bad/plugged cat but it seems the hesitation would be in the high end not the low? So I'm still thinking wires, o2 sensors, cats but not sure which one to go with first anyone got any ideas ?

Spike< I have STI wires not magnacores but good wire I believe and seam to be in good shape. Still sound like plugs & wires to you?

AK Rover< what does
P1174 - Lambda control adaption fault bank 2.Last occurrence - maximum signal
P1175 - Lambda control adaption fault bank 2.Last occurrence - minimum signal
mean to the layman ?

Mike < thanks for the call do you mind if I call you sometime this week ?

Alan

Replace the plug wires, alot of people who have used the STI wires have multiple mis fires.
Do those first, you have classic signs of bad plug wires, rough idle, no low end power, stalling at a stop light etc.
Replace the plugs again also, NGK's are fine. But with the weak spark they will be fouled again already.
Clear the codes and see what comes back.
If the O2 codes come back AFTER you do the plugs and wires then replace them.
Do the cats last IF they need to be done, and then replace them both.
