Mentioned recently Im soon to be ordering a Ironman4x4 LED light bar (same model used by Lucky8 on their Project P38) part number ILEDSR516. Price $300 shipped. Anyways Im wondering how best to install it, what spot will be best either the roof or on the front bumper and Im wondering how much juice it will consume from the battery while driving. Truck has 146k now and brand new duralast gold battery, but original alternator. No fancy dual battery setup - which is why im worried. In April Ill be using the light bar all night for at least a week while driving to illuminate the roads. Can a old alternator and new battery handle that kind of power or will it likely kill the new battery?

Im considering buying a spare used alternator in case mine should fail on the trip. Had it tested though and so far its in good shape.

 

Looking at the specs on the bar and doing the simple math it is a touch less than 10 amps current draw. Based on the 40" light bar with 24 5 watt leds. About the equivalent of using the cigarette lighter in your car.

i run 4 9 inch ebay lights and they are bright as can be at a fraction of the "name brands" cheaper to replace when they go out or if you meet an un forgiving tree limb

caught a nice tree limb and you can see where the passenger side light is moved abit. also they took a good amount of damage in hidden falls and still no issues.

 

Seriously? I thought any led light bar would put a big burden on the electrical system. In light of how bright they are and how many light build are in the light bar. Is it difficult to install? You know of any how to install threads on here? Never delt with electrical mods before so this is new territory for me.

LED are low draw lights that is one of their biggest benefits

 

I bought a Garvin Rack and my 40" is mounted to it. Really bright but it does shine off the hood but it works well.

240W 40" light bar from Amazon.com ($125 Shipped!). I use it all the time with the heat going, seat heaters, headlights, fog lights, spotlights, heated windshield, etc... You get the idea. No drop in voltage via the ultra gauge. 240 watts is ~18 amps@ 13 volts (even less at 14v which is where my truck seems to sit around)
Assuming you dont have SLS or ACE you can use either of those circuits/relays to power your auxiliary stuff. (my LED bar is running through the ACE wiring and the spot lamps are going through the SLS)

 

Are you using the hard to find crossbar to mount your light to?
