What weight oil are you running and what is the average temperature of your location this time of year?

Default Just got it

They have been using 5w 30 and the temp in NE averages 15 and can get as low as 0. Going to be warming up to the 40's now though.

http://www.landroverresource.com/

Download the rave manual for your vehicle from that link.

It will give you the correct viscosity oil to use at different temperatures.

Default Mobile 1 5w 30

I thought that's what it might be but its not sounding like its coming from that area. Its almost a crack more than a tick, Like spark, Going to dig into it tomorrow. Maybe a bad plug wire.. Just not sure. (that doesnt explain why it gets quiet after it runs a bit)

The lifters are not being lubed and once the oil gets flowing the are then lubed and the noise goes away.
Cold weather, a crap oil filter or the wrong oil for the climate can all cause this as well as a weak oil pump or excessive engine sludge.
